Who We Are

Himalayan Calvary Assembly of God was founded by Reverend Ramesh and Urmila Maharjan on July 10, 2014, in Levittown, NY, with an anointing prayer and commission from Reverend Dr. Dilip Chettri and Guruama Mina Chettri. The first Sunday service was held on July 13, 2014, with just six members. After a few months of gathering in Levittown, the church relocated to Jackson Heights, Queens, with a vision to share the gospel with our Himalayan and Nepali-speaking brothers and sisters. By the grace of God, after more than a decade of faithfulness, Himalayan Calvary Assembly of God continues to grow both in number and Spirit.

Message From Pastor’s Desk

Born in 1969 in Kathmandu, Nepal, into a devout Hindu-Buddhist family, Ramesh Maharjan began questioning faith from a young age, seeking redemption (मोक्ष). In 1984, he joined Lalitpur Technical School, where he initially viewed the Bible as mere literature. However, after a year of study, he encountered Jesus as the Redeemer and the Truth. Since then, he has dedicated his life to serving Christ. He married Urmila Maharjan in 1994, and they have two children, Sristi and Abel. He began ministry at the age of 17 at Nawa Jeevan Assembly of God, and founded Siddhipur Prayer Assembly (currently renamed as Shanti Jeevan Assembly of God) in 1999, and later moved to the U.S. In 2014, he established Himalayan Calvary Assembly of God, where he has been serving as Lead Pastor since.
